Owner Brian Kerr grew up with the restaurant business in his blood. His father Robert was part of Restaurant Franchising Group back in the 1970’s and 80’s that represented numerous brands and had restaurant locations all across Canada. Brian’s fondest memories of those times were the days he would get dress up in a jacket and tie and spend the day driving with his father from town to town, restaurant to restaurant while his father had meetings with the restaurant operators. On those drives his father explained the business to him and Brian soaking it up. Sadly for Brian, his father sold his interest in the business when Brian was 18 years old, but what was learned during those years was never forgotten.

Ultimately, Brian chose wine as a career. Brian had an uncle who was a true connoisseur and taught him all about the different grapes, where they grew well and what they should taste like. Brian likes to say that he knew more about wine before he was legal to drink alcohol than most people will ever know. After University, Brian studied wine formally with the Wine and Spirit Education trust out of Great Britain, he worked three years in what Brian claims was the best private retail wine boutique in Canada, he spent a vintage in the Napa valley learning how to make wine, and he visited hundreds of wineries across four continents. As fate would have it, it was Brian’s expert wine knowledge that led him back to the restaurants where Brian eventually became a AAA five diamond Maître’D / Sommelier and finished his wine career as the Chief Sommelier of the illustrious Queen Mary 2 ocean liner.

Brian recalls that back in those days, he and his restaurant coworkers used to sit around with a bottle of wine after a long night on the floor or behind the line and they would joke about giving it all up, moving to the Caribbean, and opening a little restaurant serving fresh local fish, great burgers and cold beer. That Joke became a dream for Brian and that dream became reality in 2009 when Brian opened Bobo’s Fish & Chips on Isla Mujeres, True to the dream, the fish comes fresh from the local fisherman, the burgers are handmade daily and the beer is cold.
